Arum italicum, commonly known as Italian arum, is an evergreen perennial with arrow-shaped, glossy green leaves often marked with pale veins for a striking variegated effect. In spring, it produces unusual hooded spathes of pale green to cream surrounding a central spike (spadix), followed by clusters of bright red berries in autumn that persist into winter.
The berries provide food for birds, and the flowers attract early-season pollinators, giving this plant ecological value despite its mild toxicity to humans. Its architectural foliage and winter berry interest make it a valuable plant for woodland gardens, shaded borders, and naturalised areas.
