Cotula coronopifolia, commonly known as brass buttons, is a low-growing, creeping perennial with bright green, finely divided leaves forming dense mats across damp ground or shallow water margins. In summer, it produces small, button-like yellow flower heads held just above the foliage, creating a cheerful and compact floral display.
This species is valuable for wetland biodiversity, providing cover for small insects and amphibians and stabilising damp soils. Its mat-forming habit and tolerance of consistently moist or waterlogged conditions make it ideal for pond margins, bog gardens, and naturalistic wet planting schemes.
