Equisetum scirpoides, commonly known as dwarf or miniature horsetail, is a low-growing, clump-forming perennial with fine, jointed green stems forming dense, compact mats in shallow water or damp soil. It produces inconspicuous spore-bearing cones in early summer, adding subtle texture rather than showy blooms.
This species is valuable for wetland biodiversity and stabilising pond margins, providing cover for small insects and amphibians. Its compact, upright habit and tolerance of consistently wet or waterlogged conditions make it ideal for shallow pond edges, water gardens, and damp rockeries.
