Iris versicolor, commonly known as blue flag iris 'Gerald Derby', is a clump-forming perennial with upright, sword-shaped green leaves that form dense, architectural foliage. In late spring to early summer it produces large, vivid flowers in bright blue-violet shades with contrasting yellow and white markings, creating a bold and striking display along pond margins and in shallow water.
This cultivar is valued for its vibrant colour and contribution to wetland biodiversity, attracting pollinators and providing cover for pond-edge wildlife. Its upright, rhizomatous habit and tolerance of consistently moist or shallowly submerged soil make it ideal for pond edges, bog gardens, and naturalistic water features.
