Petasites albus, commonly known as white butterbur, is a vigorous, clump-forming perennial with large, rounded green leaves forming bold architectural foliage. In early spring it produces spikes of small, fragrant white flowers, creating an early-season display in damp soils and along pond margins.
This species is valuable for early pollinators and helps stabilise wet soils while providing shelter for small wildlife. Its spreading habit and tolerance of consistently moist or shallowly submerged soil make it ideal for pond edges, damp borders, and naturalistic water gardens.
