Potentilla hippiana, commonly known as woolly cinquefoil, is a herbaceous perennial with softly hairy, divided green leaves that form loose clumps at ground level. In summer it produces small but bright yellow, five-petalled flowers held above the foliage, giving a light, meadow-like appearance.
This species is valued for its wildlife benefit, attracting pollinators such as bees and hoverflies. Its tolerance of moist soils and natural spreading habit make it well suited to damp meadows, pond margins above the waterline, and naturalistic or wildlife-focused planting schemes.
